The Sellers Family Page

This page begins with my Gr. Grandfather George Washington "Wash" Sellers born 1842-1844 in McMinn Co., Tennessee. Family stories holds it that Georges father was killed in the Mexican war when he was a small child and raised by his Grandparents. It is believed that his Grandparents are Edward George Sellers and Sarah (Sallie) Witt, we have found on a 1850 McMinn Co. Census George and siblings living with them. Other stories has George and His Brother Wylie (Blount) riding with the "James Gang" for awhile and keeping company among other notorious individuals. We have found George and family from Tennessee to Missouri then to Texas where My Grandfather was born. My Grandfather also named George had been known to keep company with some notorious individuals such as "Pretty Boy Floyd" just to name one of them. The Sellers family were farmers and also mined from time to time. These are just a few of the stories as told by the older Sellers family members.

The Sellars (Sellers) Name

The Sellars Coat of Arms illustrated above was drawn by a heraldic artist from information officially recorded in ancient heraldic archives. Documentation for the Sellars Coat of Arms design can be found In "Burke's General Armory". Heraldic artists of old developed their own unique language to describe an individual Coat of Arms. In their language, the Arms (shield) is as follows:

"Az. on a chev. ar. betw. Three open cups, each within two branches of laurel conjoined at the top or, a saltire of the first."

When translated the Arms description is:
"Blue: on a silver chevron between three gold open cups, each within two branches of laurel conjoined at the top gold. 1 blue cross."

Above the shield and helmet is the Crest which is described as:
"A demi swan with rings elevated, natural color."

A translation of the Crest description is:
"A demi swan with wings elevated, natural color."

Family mottos are believed to have originated as battle cries in medieval times.
The Motto recorded with the Sellars Coat of Arms is:
'CONFIDO" (I Trust)
